The Mecate reins are exclusively designed by Chris to help maintain softness and suppleness, and achieve maximum communication with the horse. They are constructed of soft yet durable yachting rope. The Mecate reins are 22' long and are comfortable providing a great feel when riding. The core is firm yet flexible allowing the weight and body of the reins to stay flexible and prevent the reins from becoming hard or stiff. Approximately 8-10 feet are used for the rein and the remaining 10-12 feet are used as a lead rope, great for doing ground work in preparation for riding or a popper when in the saddle, the lead can be half hitched around the saddle horn or placed through the rider's belt.
They are available in two different Navajo patterns: Black/Tan Navajo and Brown/Tan Navajo. The Mecate reins also come in two different sizes, 1/2" and 5/8", the most popular size is the 1/2" reins as they fit great in a smaller hand(great for the Horsewomen) NOTE: the 5/8" Mecate reins are the same size as the leads, so they are much thicker and heavier than the 1/2" Mecate reins, although they are loved by the larger handed horseman/horsewoman. These Mecate reins are great for all disciplines and events from starting young horses to trail riding or for competition. They easily attach to your bridle with slobber straps or shank slobber straps.
